This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. — Joshua 1:9

Scripture Reference

Numbers 13-14 (The Beginner’s Bible p. 124-127)

Teaching Truth

  • We can trust God no matter what happens.

Questions to Ask Your Child

  • The promised land that the spies went to see was called Canaan. What did the spies see when they got to Canaan?

  • Why were some of the spies scared?

  • What happened to the Israelites since not everyone trusted God?

  • Who trusted God and how can we trust God?

Family Activity

Grab 12 popsicle sticks and help your child draw a simple face on each one and number them 1-12. Hide the popsicle sticks around the room and let your child find them. Once all 12 popsicle sticks are found, separate two from the group. Talk about how these 10 spies were scared, but two spies, Joshua and Caleb, trusted God.

Wrap-Up

With each lesson, help your child apply what they have learned by asking, “What do you think God wants us to learn from this story?” If you get stuck with finding the answer, refer to the weekly Teaching Truths.
