Elementary // Fear Week 4

Memory Verse:
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases Him, and love Him and serve Him with all your heart and soul.” Deuteronomy 10:12 (NLT)

Definition

Fear: Having the right view of God’s perfect authority, justice, and grace

Teaching Truth

Having the right view of God means understanding His perfect balance between justice and GRACE

Questions to Ask Your Child

  1. Read Psalm 51:1-12 – How does David show that he fears the Lord in this psalm? What does he ask God?

  2. What was the only way David could be forgiven? What’s the only way we can be forgiven and receive God’s grace?

  3. Have you ever prayed a prayer like David? If you were to write a psalm like this, what would it say?

  4. How has God shown you His grace today? This week? Throughout your life?

Activity

During the week look for an opportunity to model God’s grace to your kids. At some point this week your children will most likely do something that deserves a consequence of some kind. Instead of giving them the consequence they deserve, give your child something they really enjoy. That could be a snack or drink or maybe screen time. Teach them that similar to how they did not receive the consequence they deserved but rather received undeserved favor and kindness, God has done the same for us through Jesus.
