Elementary // Fear Week 3

Memory Verse:
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases Him, and love Him and serve Him with all your heart and soul.” Deuteronomy 10:12 (NLT)

Definition

Fear: Having the right view of God’s perfect authority, justice, and grace

Teaching Truth

Having the right view of God means understanding His perfect balance between JUSTICE and grace

Questions to Ask Your Child

  1. Read 2 Samuel 6:1-9 – How do we see God’s perfect justice in this story? Can you also see a way that God showed grace?

  2. How would you define justice? What do you think when you hear that God is perfectly holy and just?

  3. Read Romans 3:23-26 – What do we deserve because of our sin? What is the only thing that can save us from the right consequences for our sins?

Activity

While at the dinner table, spend time with your family defining justice and grace. Ask them what makes grace different than justice. Justice is getting the right consequences for our actions. Grace is getting the good we don’t deserve, or undeserved, un-earned favor and kindness. Then ask what makes both justice and grace necessary AND good. Explain to them that only God has the perfect balance of both justice and grace. Pray together as a family thanking God that He never makes mistakes and has the perfect balance between justice and grace.
