Preschool – Parables: The Farmer and the Seed

Memory Verse:
Love the Lord your God witI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. — John 14:6

Scripture Reference

Matthew 13:1-9; 18-23

Teaching Truth

  • Jesus wants our hearts to be like good soil, ready to obey God’s word.

Questions to Ask Your Child

  • What is like the bad soil in the story?

  • How are our hearts like the good soil?

  • How can grow our love for God and what should we read to help us?

Family Activity

Let your child pretend to be a seed and have him crouch down like a seed. Go through each place where the seed falls.

  1. Seeds on the road will blow away, so let your child roll away.

  2. Seeds in rocky soil will grow for a while, but eventually the rocks get in the way and hurt the seeds, so have your child grow a little by coming out of the crouch, then die back down.

  3. Seeds in the weeds get choked out and don’t have the ability to grow, so have your child try to grow, but gentle push him back down.

  4. Seeds in the good soil have everything they need to grow, so let your child completely grow into a flower.

Wrap-Up

With each lesson, help your child apply what they have learned by asking, “What do you think God wants us to learn from this story?” If you get stuck with finding the answer, refer to the weekly Teaching Truths.
