Elementary // Perseverance Week 2

Memory Verse:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” – HEBREWS 12:1 NIV

Definition

Perseverance: Not giving up, even when it is tough.

Teaching Truth

Don’t give up, because God’s plan is perfect.

Questions to Ask Your Child

  1. Read the story of Noah (Genesis 7-9). Ask your kids what they think it was like for Noah to have to be in the boat for so long. What would be fun/hard about it?

  2. How did God prove that His plan is perfect, and He always keeps His promises?

  3. What are some things that tempt you to not trust God’s perfect plan? What can you do when you’re tempted to doubt?

Activity

Plan a day ahead to freeze a quarter inside of an ice cube for each member of your family. At dinner one evening, give each person one of the ice cubes with the quarter inside. Explain to them that whoever gets the ice to melt completely off their quarter first wins all the quarters. Tell them that they cannot put it in their mouth or hit it against anything. Teach them that some things take perseverance but can be totally worth it in the end.
