Teaching Truth

Jesus is the perfect example of humility

Questions to Ask Your Child

  1. Read Philippians 2:3-4. How do these verses describe humility? (Not being selfish or trying to impress, thinking of others, taking an interest in others) Why is it hard for us not to think about ourselves first?

  2. Who is Jesus according to Philippians 2:6? (God) When you think of God, what words come to mind? All these things that are true about God are also true about Jesus!

  3. Read Philippians 2:8. What was Jesus’ ultimate example of humility? (He died on a cross. Dying on a cross was the most humiliating and painful way to die. However, Jesus chose to humble Himself even to die on a cross. He knew it was the ONLY way to save us and bring glory to the Father.)

  4. Read Philippians 2:9-11. Did Jesus deserve to go to the cross and suffer like He did? What does He deserve? (He deserves to be praised and worshipped. He didn’t deserve to die because He was without sin. Someday everyone will bow to Him and confess that He is Lord!)

Activity

Learn the memory verse as a family. Write it with wipe off markers on your bathroom mirror. Practice “popcorn style,” where each family member says one word until the entire verse is completed. Write it on an index card and keep it on the kitchen table or in the car or make up your own hand motions.
