Now You See Me

Sermon Notes

In this message, Daniel Smith, our Students Director, continues our In Living Color series as we get a glimpse into the true appearance of Jesus in Luke 9:28–36. In the Transfiguration of Jesus, we see Moses and Elijah affirm Jesus' identity as the Messiah. And we see the loving-kindness of God, who verifies Jesus as the one to trust and follows through on His promises. No matter what has happened to you in this life, there's always a seat on the bus for you to trust and know the loving-kindness of God.

God's Loving Kindness Verifies His Son

  • The Transfiguration of Jesus in Luke 9:28–35 serves as a clear verification of his identity as the Messiah.

  • The presence of Moses and Elijah during the Transfiguration confirms Jesus as the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.

  • God's voice affirming Jesus as His chosen Son establishes undeniable clarity and trust in Him.

God's Loving Kindness Gives Us More Than We Can Imagine

  • Both Elijah and Moses had unique relationships with God, meeting Him on mountains and hearing His voice.

  • Moses, despite his requests being denied by God, experienced God's loving-kindness in the fulfillment and restoration of His promises.

  • In the Transfiguration of Jesus, Moses' longing to see God's face and his denial of entering the Promised Land find fulfillment and redemption in the presence of Christ. God's loving kindness transforms those who encounter it.

God's Loving Kindness Transforms Who You Are

  • Dwelling in God's loving kindness leads to the transformation of oneself and others.

  • The example of Peter witnessing the Transfiguration shows the power of God's loving-kindness to compel action.

  • Demonstrating God's loving kindness in everyday interactions can impact and transform the lives of us and others.

God's Loving Kindness Lays Down His Life for Us

  • God's loving-kindness extends to everyone, even those who feel excluded or rejected by the Church.

  • Jesus, out of His loving-kindness, willingly endured disfigurement and punishment on the cross for our sins.

  • The invitation to experience God's loving kindness and forgiveness is open to all who are willing to trust and accept Him.
