Love Is Blind

Sermon Notes

As we continue in our "In Living Color" series, we see a woman who encountered Jesus and found lasting satisfaction. Learn about the significance of Jesus' interaction with a Samaritan woman and its profound impact on her life, and see how to find true satisfaction and fulfillment by worshiping God in spirit and truth.

Why We're Not Satisfied

  • We often look for satisfaction in the wrong places or to the wrong things, such as seeking approval from others, pursuing material success, or relying on external factors for happiness.

  • We all experience a sense of thirst or longing in various aspects of our lives, whether it's for love, control, security, or fulfillment. These desires can never be fully satisfied by worldly means alone.

  • Jesus teaches that true worship and satisfaction come from a spiritual connection with God and living in truth rather than relying on religious actions or specific locations. The first part of finding satisfaction is rooted in a genuine relationship with God.

Satisfaction Comes From Knowing God

  • True satisfaction comes from knowing God and living a life dedicated to continually knowing and worshiping Him.

  • Building and nurturing relationships, including our relationship with God, requires communication, time, and prioritization.

  • Practically, knowing God involves prayer, engaging with His Word through reading and study, and being part of a community that seeks to live for Him. Prioritizing the wrong things can leave us feeling empty and disconnected from our purpose. Just as a glove fulfills its purpose when connected to the hand it was made for, we fulfill our purpose when we are connected to God. Jesus teaches that true satisfaction and nourishment come from doing the will of God and finishing His work.

Satisfaction Comes From Making God Known

  • True satisfaction comes from making God known and doing His will, which brings fulfillment and purpose.

  • Living for oneself and pursuing worldly desires only leaves a person empty, while sharing faith, serving others, and prioritizing God's will bring true satisfaction.

  • Worshiping God involves knowing, enjoying, and proclaiming His goodness, and it is through a daily relationship with Him that we can access the living water that truly satisfies us. Many Christians feel empty because they have access to a relationship with God but fail to take advantage of it through prayer, studying His Word, and living out His teachings. Trusting in Christ without actively engaging in a relationship with Him will leave one feeling spiritually thirsty.
