Elementary // Purpose Week 3

Memory Verse:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

Defintion

Purpose: Intentionally living for God

Teaching Truth

When we know our purpose, we serve God and use our gifts

Questions to Ask Your Child

  1. Read Luke 2:8-20 and Matthew 2:1-12. What gifts did the shepherds and wise men have? How did they both serve God with their gifts?

  2. How did the shepherds and wise men not only glorify God but encourage others (Joseph and Mary) with their gifts?

  3. What gifts has God given you? What is one way you can be intentional with the gifts God has given you this week? How could you encourage someone else with your gifts?

Activity

At one of your upcoming mealtimes this week, spend time reviewing the big ideas we’ve learned about Purpose this month. Ask your kids, “What is God’s purpose?” (God’s purpose is His glory) “How did Mary and Joseph show they trusted God, His word, and His purpose for them?” (They believed the messages the angels gave them and that God’s purpose for them was to be the earthly parents of Jesus, the Messiah!) “What is our purpose?” (To intentionally live for God) Spend time brainstorming how you can live your life with purpose so that others will learn about the Good News of Jesus this next year!
