Elementary // Humility Week 4

Memory Verse:
“Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT)

Definition

Humility: Living with the right understanding of who God is, who I am, and who you are

Teaching Truth

Humility helps us depend on God daily

Questions to Ask Your Child

  1. Read Ephesians 6:10-12. Why do believers need to be strong in the Lord? (Because there is a very real enemy who doesn’t want us to trust or follow God.)

  2. Read Ephesians 6:13-20. What do these verses tell us to do? (Put on every piece of God’s armor.) What pieces of God’s armor are we told to put on for defense? (Belt of truth, body armor or breastplate of righteousness, shoes fitted with peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation)

  3. Can you think of a time when you were tempted to believe a lie but remembered truth from God’s Word? What happened?

  4. What are things you can do every day to “put on God’s armor” this week and show that you daily depend on God instead of yourself? (Pray, read the Bible, talk about God and His promises with others, remember and share the gospel, etc.)

Activity

One piece of the armor of God is the belt of truth. Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:18 to “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.” One way to pray is to pray Scripture. Take some time to pray together using Scripture. Pick a passage and pray using God’s Words. For example, pray using our memory verse for this month, Philippians 2:3-4.

“God, I pray that I would not be selfish or try to impress others. Help me to be humble and think of others, looking out for their interests above my own. Thank you for being the perfect example of humility. Amen.”
